FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason softball (22–18, 9–9 A-10) secured a 4–2 victory over Saint Louis (18–22, 9–9 A-10) at the GMU Softball Complex on Sunday, April 12. The game served as the decisive finale of a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series. The weekend opened with a split doubleheader on Saturday, April 11, as George Mason won the first game 3–2 before falling 4–1 in the second.
The Green & Gold rallied with a three-run sixth inning, which proved pivotal in securing both the victory and the series win.
The Patriots faced the Billikens in a tightly contested matchup. Saint Louis struck first in the third inning, when Anna Christ doubled to right-center to score Bella Stephens and Abby Ulsas. George Mason responded in the bottom half of the inning as Abbey Lane doubled down the left-field line and later scored on a single by Logan Pickford. After three innings, the Billikens led 2–1.
The game remained close until the sixth inning, when the Green & Gold's offense came alive. Tess Altevers Harris led off the inning with a single, followed by another single from Meghan Gray. A hit-by-pitch then loaded the bases, setting the stage for Kamryn Inman, who delivered with a single to third base that drove in two runs. Lane added a sacrifice fly to bring home another run, giving the Patriots a 4–2 lead.
Bri Lencz entered in the sixth and pitched an inning to earn the win, improving her record to 6–3. Alyssa Rangel closed out the game in the seventh, striking out one batter and securing her fifth save of the season. The duo combined to retire six straight batters in hitless, scoreless innings to seal the victory.
Inman led the offense with two RBIs, while Gray added two hits and scored a run. Lane contributed an RBI, a double, and a run scored, while also pitching 5.0 innings and recording three strikeouts.
Entering the weekend, Saint Louis held fourth place in the Atlantic 10 standings, with George Mason in sixth. Following the series, the Patriots moved up to fifth place, while the Billikens dropped to sixth, with both teams holding 9–9 conference records. George Mason secured the tiebreaker with the series win. The top six teams during the regular season qualify for the A-10 Softball Championship Tournament.
George Mason returns to action on Wednesday, April 15, hosting Mount Saint Mary's in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. at the GMU Softball Complex.
