FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason softball (21-18, 8-9 A-10) split their doubleheader against Saint Louis (18-21, 9-8 A-10) at the GMU Softball Complex on Saturday, April 11. To open the three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series, the Patriots secured a narrow 3–2 victory in the first game before falling 1-4 in the second. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak, the Patriots' longest since the 2023 season, when they were named A-10 champions and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament.
GAME ONE: George Mason vs. Saint Louis, W 3-2
Fresh off being named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week,
Abbey Lane delivered a dominant performance in the first game. She pitched a complete game, going seven innings while allowing just three hits and one earned run, and striking out a career-high eight batters. The outing marked her 10th win of the season and highlighted her ability to control the game effectively.
The scoring opened in the third inning when
Logan Pickford singled and later scored on a single by
Alyssa Hopkins, giving George Mason a 1–0 lead.
The sixth inning saw Saint Louis score an unearned run, but the Patriots quickly responded. Hopkins singled, and pinch runner
Jessica Chan advanced to third on an error, setting the stage for
Madi Sobota's two-run double, extending the lead to 3–1. Although Saint Louis closed the gap with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, George Mason held on to win 3–2.
Sobota finished with a double and two RBIs, while Pickford added two hits, scored once, and stole a base. Pickford's performance continued her impressive streak of recording at least two hits in four consecutive games. Hopkins also recorded two hits and one RBI, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts.

In the second game, George Mason struggled offensively, being held to just three hits. The contest was scoreless through the first five innings, with both teams unable to capitalize on their opportunities. A triple by Karsen Jany followed by a sacrifice fly from Abby Mallo initiated the scoring, and Sophia Boente's double to left center drove in three more runs, giving Saint Louis a commanding 4–0 lead.
The Patriots fought back in the seventh inning, as
