The George Mason men's basketball team officially tips off the 2016-17 season at EagleBank Arena on Saturday welcoming the Towson Tigers. The Patriots and Tigers competed against each other for 12 seasons in the CAA, with the Patriots winning 19 of 20 matchups, losing only the final game, 85-81, in overtime. Towson won the first non-conference meeting between the teams since Mason joined the A-10, 75-54, last year at the SECU Arena in Towson.

Mason returns three starters, including their top two scorers, sophomore Otis Livingston II and senior Marquise Moore. Livingston II led the Patriots in scoring with 11.9 points per game while earning a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. The Patriots welcome five newcomers to an already young team with 11 underclassmen and three seniors.

Towson returns six players from last season's 20-win team that finished third in the CAA. The Tigers are anchored by three All-CAA returnees in seniors John Davis and Arnaud William Adala Moto and junior guard Mike Morsell. In the CAA's preseason poll the Tigers are predicted to finish second behind UNCW.

George Mason is celebrating a significant milestone all season long. The Patriots will be recognizing 50 years of George Mason men's basketball. Since Mason first took the court on Dec. 6, 1966, the Patriots (first called the Marauders) have played more than 1,400 basketball games.
