George Mason sophomore guard Rashad Whack
has decided to transfer from
the school and continue his playing career elsewhere. A native of Hyattsville, Md.,
Whack will be granted his release and will seek another opportunity at a
different school.
"After several
conversations with the coaching staff, Rashad has decided to find a school
where he can earn more playing time," said head coach Jim Larranaga
. "Rashad is
a terrific young man and a very solid contributor during the last two seasons.
We wish him well and will try to help him find the right basketball
situation."
Whack appeared in 40 games
for the Green and Gold, including one start against Villanova during his
freshman campaign. This past season, Whack appeared in 22 of the Patriots'
games, averaging more than five minutes per game, and registered 28 rebounds,
18 points, seven assists, three steals and a block. He played double-digit
minutes in four consecutive Colonial Athletic Association games during the
month of January.
With the departure of Whack
along with Mason's two outgoing seniors, guards Cam Long
and Isaiah Tate
, the
Patriots will return 11 players in 2011-12 from this season's squad. That team
posted the best record in school history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's
third round after a regular-season CAA title.
