GREENSBORO, N.C. – It was an exciting day for the George Mason track and field program on Friday at the NCAA East Preliminaries, as one athlete secured his spot to the upcoming national championships, while two more advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective events tomorrow evening.

David Verburg punched his ticket to the national championship in the 400m, taking an automatic qualifying spot after finishing third in heat three and seventh overall with a time of 46.14.

Continuing to advance in the competition, Shavon Briscoe moved on to the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles after crossing the finish line in 13.43, good for fourth place in heat two and 22^nd overall. She will run in the quarterfinals tomorrow evening at 7:05 p.m.

Adrian Vaughn also took an automatic qualifying spot in the first round of the 200m, placing third in heat two and 14^th overall in 20.91. He will compete in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 7:50 p.m.

Taylor Wheaton just missed the chance to compete in Eugene, placing 14^th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.01. In the quarterfinals of the women's 400m, Cierra McGee did not advance to the NCAA Championships after finishing 18^th with a time of 53.63.

Also competing for the Patriots was Anthony Williams in the 110m hurdles (14.47), Aneesha Scott in the 200m (25.01) and Jasmine Moser in the pole vault (3.85m). None of the trio advanced in the competition.

Mason wraps up action at the East prelims tomorrow, with competitors in the 100m hurdles, men's 200m dash, the men's triple jump and both the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
