FAIRFAX, Va. – Competing in the Third Annual George's Cup, the George Mason rowing team hosted George Washington and Georgetown Sunday morning at the Occoquan Reservoir. George Washington swept all four races, three counting for points, to capture the George's Cup for the second consecutive year.
The race opened with the varsity fours taking to the water first. Mason claimed second-place behind GW with a time of 7:36.70. GW easily claimed the second varsity eight in 6:45.00 as Mason and Georgetown battled it out for second and third place. Mason finished just behind the Hoyas with a time of 6:55.10.
In the tightest race of the afternoon, the varsity eight closed out racing counting towards the George's Cup. GW took the race in 6:28.10 as the Patriots and Hoyas once again challenged each other to the finish. A late push by Georgetown pushed the Hoyas over the finish line first to claim second-place as Mason finished a half a second behind in 6:36.50.
Mason and GW raced a third varsity eight, not counting towards point total. GW claimed the race.
Mason returns to action at the Dad Vail Regatta on March 10-11.
