FAIRFAX, Va.- The George Mason men's swimming and diving team defeated Towson (195-99) and Boston College (201.5- 96.5) Saturday. The women also defeated Boston College (213-87) but fell to Towson (78-222). The tri-meet was held at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
The Patriot men were led by David Kiss who finished first in three events the 200 Free (1:43.02) and Fly (1:55.08) and 100 Fly (50.41). In the 100 and 200 Back, Austin Witherow also added two first place wins with 52.81 and 1:53.68 marks. Joey Kelly, Kyle Sockwell and Fernando Rubio also added an individual win each in the 100 Free, 200 Breasstroke and 200 IM, respectively.
In diving, Nick Guttendorf placed first in the 1-mtr. dive with a score of 291.90. John Schmitz placed second behind Guttendorf with a 272.70 mark. Schmitz and Guttendorf placed second and third in the 3-mtr. dive, respectively.
The men also took first place in the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay with 1:35.28 and 3:08.93 mark, respectively.
For the women, Melissa Davis finished first in the 200 Back with a time of 2:05.86 and second in the 100 Back with a 58.54 mark. Paige Impink had two second place finishes in the 100 Freestyle (53.63) and the 100 Fly (57.26)
In both the men's and women's 50 Freestyle race, two Patriots tied for second place. Jill King and Kelsey Sorensen tied with a time of 25.15. Kelly and Travis Lauri tied for the men at 21.68.
Swimming and diving returns to the pool when they take on Army and American in a tri-meet Saturday, January 19th, at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
