FAIRFAX, Va. - Taylor Brown, a guard who played her freshman season at Georgetown University, will transfer to George Mason for the 2012-13 season as announced by women's basketball head coach Jeri Porter today. Brown will sit out the 2012-13 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, but will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Patriots beginning in the 2013-14 campaign.

"We are extremely pleased that Taylor has decided to continue her academic and athletic career here at George Mason," commented Porter. "Taylor represents the very best that this talent-rich area has to offer and we are excited about the impact that she will undoubtedly have on both our program and the very competitive Colonial Athletic Association."

Brown appeared in all 32 games for the Hoyas in 2011-12, where the 5'7" Bowie, Md., native averaged 4.1 points and 1.6 rebounds. The local native started in 12 games, dishing out 27 assists and managing 27 steals. A strong shooter, Brown helped Georgetown to a 23-9 overall record and 11-5 BIG EAST mark hitting 38.5 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from beyond the arc. Also a consistent shooter at the charity stripe, the incoming sophomore connected on 19-of-29 (.655) attempts from the free throw line last season.

Playing 20 minutes in her first start of the season against Houston (Nov. 19), Brown chipped in nine points on 4-of-10 shooting from the floor, pulled down three rebounds and recorded two steals. In her second start the following game, Brown recorded a season-best 13 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes of action in the victory over Monmouth (Nov. 21).

As a prep player coming out of Bishop McNamara High School, Brown hit the 1,000th point mark as a senior after averaging 20 points, five assists and two steals and ended her career with more than 1,500 points. Named the 2011 Washington Post Player of the Year and WCAC Player of the Year, Brown was also tabbed the Prince George's Gazette Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Maryland. She capped her prep career being nominated for the McDonald's High School All-American Game and was a member of the Parade Magazine High School All-American Girls Basketball team. Her jersey was hung in the "Ring of Honor" at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn.

As a junior, she earned a spot on the first team for Washington Post All-Met, All-Prince George's County and the WCAC after averaging 17 points and four assists. In 2008 as a sophomore, Brown helped Bishop McNamara to a WCAC Championship and was tabbed WCAC Honorable Mention.

Brown joins newcomers Kyana Jacobs (Dale City, Va./Pensacola State College), Reana Mohamed (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) and Ondrea Shaw (Louisville, Ky./Coffeyville C.C.) to the Patriot's roster for the 2012-13 season.
