FAIRFAX, Va. - Behind double-figure scoring performances from Taleia Moton and Christine Weithman, the George Mason women's basketball team dominated visiting UNC Asheville Sunday afternoon for an 88-59 victory in the Patriot Center. The Patriots pushed their win streak to four games and improved to 4-1 overall this season, while Asheville dipped to 2-3.

For the game, Mason shot 56.5 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free throw line, while holding Asheville to a 29.4 percent shooting efficiency. Moton erupted in the second half, draining 24 points to finish with a game-high 30 to match her career-high set 10 days ago at Longwood. Meanwhile, Weithman set a career-high scoring 22 points hitting five triples and going 7-for-9 at the charity stripe. Rahneeka Saunders led Mason on the glass with a career-high 11 rebounds as the Patriots narrowly won the rebounding battle, 41-40.

Asheville saw double-figure scoring performances from three Bulldogs led by Kelli Riles with 17 points. Shonese Jones followed with 14 points and Lindsey Thompson added 11. Riles finished with a double-double adding 15 rebounds. The redshirt-junior went 7-of-8 at the free throw line.

Mason hit four three-pointers - three from Weithman - and held Asheville to a 27 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half to hold a 43-24 halftime advantage. Trailing by one point a 3-2, the Patriots used a 9-0 spurt over the next 1:59 to take a nine-point lead at 12-3 with 15:39 to play.  The closest UNC Asheville would come the remainder of the stanza was seven points as Mason built its lead out to 18 points on three occasions and held its largest lead of 19 points at the break. Weithman paced the Patriots during the period with 15 points from a 3-of-6 shooting effort from long range and 6-of-8 effort at the charity stripe.

In the second half, the Patriots shot 71 percent from the floor led by Moton's 24 point effort. Asheville cut the score to 14 on a Leah Wormack jumper at the 12:37 mark, but Mason responded with a 14-0 run over the next 4:27 to push its lead back to a comfortable 28-point margin, 70-42 with 7:55 left to play. With 3:51 left on the clock, Weithman converted a four-point play hitting her fourth triple and drawing a foul on the play to put Mason up 78-58. Just over a minute later, Weithman connected on her fifth three-pointer as the Patriots took its largest lead of 30 points on a Melissa Collier bucket with 1:15 left.
