Box Score

Fairfax, Va.--In the third-straight overtime game for Mason's men's soccer team, the Patriots came up short against Bucknell (9-7-6) by a score of 1-0 in a first round game of the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon at George Mason Stadium in front of a crowd of 1,103. Mason closes out the 2006 campaign with an overall record of 12-6-3, which is the most wins for the Patriots since the 1998 season.

With just under five minutes remaining in the extra session, Bucknell junior midfielder Justin Wolf dished out a pass to sophomore midfielder Mark Schmiegel. Schmiegel was waiting on the left side and took a shot from about 12 yards out, which crept in the upper right corner of the net after an outstreched junior defender Michael Vallie (Rockville, Md.) could not tip the attempt out of the net.

Mason freshman goalkeeper Sean Kelley (Lexington, Ky.) was in net the entire game for the Patriots and collected eight saves on the afternoon and allowed one goal. Kelley closed out the 2006 season tallying 1,977 minutes in net for Mason. Joey Kuterbach was in net all 95 minutes and tallied seven saves for the Bison.

Mason sophomore forward Dan Ames (Livonia, N.Y.) led the Patriots as he fired off three shots on goal and had five total shots on the afternoon. Junior midfielder Adam Lobene (Rochester, N.Y.), Vallie and sophomore forward Lucas Pardew (Parkton, Md.) each added three shots for Mason in the loss.
