GREENSBORO, N.C. – The George Mason track and field team added two relays to its national championships qualifier list as competition concluded at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries held on the campus of North Carolina A&T on Saturday.
Daianna Barron, Cierra McGee, Taylor Wheaton and Dominique Graham took the final automatic qualifying spot in the women's 4x400m relay, placing third in heat three and ninth overall with a time of 3:35.84.
The men's 4x400m relay of Angel Coburn, Adrian Vaughn, DaQuan Smalls and David Verburg placed fifth in the second heat of the event and 11th overall in a season-best time of 3:07.36, giving them one of the three non-AQ times to advance to Eugene.
Three individuals competed for the Patriots on Saturday but did not advance to the finals. Shavon Briscoe finished 23rd overall in the 100m hurdles in 13.55, Adrian Vaughn ended in a three-way tie in the 200m with a time of 20.93 placing him 16th, while Jimi Tele finished in a tie for 33rd in the triple jump with a leap of 14.79m.
Both 4x400m relays and David Verburg in the men's 400m will now set their sights on the NCAA Outdoor T&F Championships June 5-8 at Track Town USA.
