The Women's tennis team hosted Niagara at Springfield Golf & Country Club on Wednesday. A combination of the weather and the Eagles proved to be too much for the Patriots, as the Purple Eagles defeated the Patriots, 5-2.
Mason's No. 3 doubles team of Esu Erdenebat and Kate Desiatnikova were able to win their match but Niagara took the doubles point by by winning at #1 and #2. The Patriots freshman Brittany Pilkington knotted the score with a win against Ashley Ta, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. The Eagles pulled ahead as they won at #1 and #3 singles. Mason pulled to within one as Andy Londen defeated Viki Sardelletti, 6-0, 6-1 at #6 singles. That was as close as the Patriots would come when Niagara secured the victory with wins at #4 and #5.
"This was a tough match mentally," commented Coach Stephen Curtis, "with the questionable weather situation and not knowing if we would even play, we came out a little flat."
Mason drops to 3-5 before heading south to play four matches in Hilton Head, SC next week.
