Women's Cross Country Finishes Seventh at Blue Hen Classic

NEWARK, Del. - The George Mason women's cross country team competed at the Blue Hen Classic at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del. on Saturday morning, earning a seventh-place finish. Host school Delaware won the 5k race with a team point total of 24.

Sophomore Samantha Fickel barely missed breaking the 20-minute mark, finishing the race in 20:04.24 to earn the 22nd position. Freshman Monique McKenzie was the second Patriot across the finish line in a time of 20:39.18. Fellow first-year Mason runner Karlyn Lockie finished 41st overall with a time of 20:53.76. Elizabeth Smith, Kailyn Lockie, Katherine Griffith and Katie Harris also competed for Mason.

Priscilla Jennings of Millersville won the meet in a time of 18:03.56. Jennings edged out the Delaware trio of Christina Antonopoulos, Yianna Antonopoulos and Julia Somers. Merrecia James from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore rounded out the top five with a time of 18:59.95.

The Patriots will be back in action on Nov. 1 when they host the CAA Championships. The meet will be held at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Va. beginning at 10 a.m.
