Women's Soccer Can't Pick Up Road Win at Delaware

Oct. 19, 2008

Box Score

Newark, Del. - The George Mason women's soccer team was unable to pick up a Colonial Athletic Association road win on Sunday afternoon as the Patriots traveled to Delaware and came away with a 3-0 loss to the Blue Hens.

The Patriots surrendered an early goal and the Blue Hens played a strong defensive game from that point forward as Mason fell to 4-11-1, 1-6-1 in the CAA. Delaware improved to 6-8-1, 3-5-0.

In the ninth minute, Amy Pickard scored her fourth goal of the season as Alli D'Amico and Caitlyn Germain earned assists on the play. That remained the game's only goal for 60 minutes until D'Amico headed in her fourth goal of the season off a cross from Germain. In the game's final minute, Germain sent a corner kick into the box and found Ilyssa Friedman for her first goal of the year, icing the match for the Blue Hens.

Kelly Keelan led Mason with two shots on goal while Jessica Paris, Sasha Vido and Kelly Thomas all had shots on goal as well. Breanna Stemier of Delaware stopped all five shots on goal to earn the shutout. Melissa Mailley was in net for Mason, stopping six of the three shots she faced. Delaware and Mason were close in shots and shots on goal but The Blue Hens had twice as many corner kicks, with a 10-5 advantage.

The Patriots take the pitch on Friday when they host William & Mary at 7 p.m.
