Mason outscored George Washington 5-3 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a sizable first half deficit as the Patriots fell 14-7 at GW Friday afternoon.

The first half was all GW as Mason would find themselves in a 8-0 holes before netting their first goal of the day when Rachel Obregon would find the back of the net with 2:26 remaining in the first half. Obregon would strike again just over a minute later, finding Chole Chan by the net making it a 9-2 game with 1:24 in the first half. George Washington would score twice over the last minute of the first half to take an 11-2 lead into the break.

Mason bounced back in the second half getting off 17 shots compared to the six from the first half. The Patriots defense also tightened up, allowing GW to take just 13 shots compared to 20 from the first half.

Obregon led Mason with three goals and one assist on the day. Chloe Chan, Caitlin McGinn, Alexa McGovern and Megan Bisson added one each.

The Patriots return home next Friday when they host Saint Joseph’s on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by “Senior Day” against La Salle Sunday at 1 p.m.
