George Mason women’s volleyball was selected to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 conference, as voted on by the league’s head coach the A-10 announced Wednesday.

Defending league champion, Duquesne, was an overwhelming selection to repeat as conference champion. The Dukes earned 98 points including eight of the 10 first place votes.  Saint Louis, picked to finish second with 83 points, and Rhode Island, picked to finish fifth with 58 points, garnered the two other first place votes. Dayton (78) and George Washington (73) fill in the third and fourth place spots respectively.

VCU (57) was the final team selected to finish ahead of Mason, while Fordham (29), Davidson (28) and La Salle (11) round out the pre-season poll.

Dayton will host the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship Nov. 21-23 at the Fredricks Center. The Patriots season gets underway August 29 with the first of four non-conference tournaments before opening A-10 play Sept. 26 when the Patriots host Fordham.

The Green and Gold return eight letter winners, including Morghan Martin who led the 2013 squad in kills (239) and points (279). Mason also welcomes six newcomers including five freshmen and transfer Jelena Cobanovic.
