NEWS & NOTES
The George Mason women's soccer team opens the 2014 season with four consecutive home contests, the first against Loyola on Friday, August 22 at George Mason Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Eight freshmen join an experienced squad from last season in the teams’ second-ever regular season contest against the Greyhounds. Junior Emma Starr scored the deciding goal one minute into the second overtime period in last season’s contest in Baltimore to give the Patriots the 1-0 victory. Starr, Mason’s leading point’s scorer in 2013 returns to lead the offense along with Liz Hodges and Brenna Connell.

Loyola will also play its first regular season game on Friday. The Greyhounds are coming off a 2-11-4 season in 2013 and look to win their season opener for the third consecutive season. Charlotte Miller returns to lead Loyola after recording a team-high for goals last season.

The Greyhounds are guided by first-year head coach and Mason alum Naomi Meiburger. A 2002 graduate from Mason, Meiburger was a four-year varsity goalkeeper for the Patriots from 1999-2022, being named a NSCAA Regional All-America First Team goalkeeper in 2002. A CAA Scholar Athlete all four years, Meiburger was also tabbed All-CAA Second Team in 2002.
