FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason head men’s basketball coach Paul Hewitt announced today the signing of Shevon Thompson to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season. Thompson, a transfer from Harcum College, will join the Patriots this fall with two years of eligibility remaining.
“My staff and I are very pleased Shevon has decided to join us at George Mason,” Hewitt commented. “He is a rapidly improving and hardworking young man. This does complete our recruiting class of 2014.”
A 6’11” center, Thompson helped lead Harcum to its first-ever NJCAA Final Four appearance this past season, hitting a pair of clutch free throws down the stretch to defeat Trinity Valley in the third round. As a sophomore, Thompson started 26 games and appeared in all 37, averaging 18.2 minutes per game, 11.2 rebounds per game and 9.7 points per game. He finished the season ranked 14th in rebounding in the NJCAA and second in field goal percentage (72.5 percent).
The Claredon, Jamaica native, broke the Harcum College single season rebounding record with 414 rebounds and owns the single season rebounding average with 11.2 rpg. The Bears finished the season ranked No. 4 in the final NJCAA Division I poll after winning a school-record 32 games.
Prior to joining the Bears, Thompson spent his freshman season at Midland College.
Thompson joins the signing class of Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla./The Villages Charter High School), Eric Lockett (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy), Therence Mayimba (Libreville, Gabon/St. James School) and Trey Porter (Dumfries, Va./Potomac).
