Softball Travels to Hampton for an Afternoon Doubleheader

NEWS & NOTES

The George Mason softball team travels to Hampton for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 2:00 p.m.  The Patriots come into this game after losing to both, Dayton and Saint Louis.  Last week on Wednesday, the Patriots swept UMES.

Tiffany Webb leads the Patriots with a .400 batting average on the season, which ranks second in all of the A-10.  Brooke Blankenship has a team-best five home runs and 44 RBI on a .386 batting average.  Julia Czarnecki also comes into this game on a hot streak; getting 15 hits in the Patriots last nine games.

Anna Blessing leads the pitching staff with a 2.41 era, which ranks in the top three of the A-10 conference.  Blessing has eight wins on the season with a team-leading 58 strikeouts. Not only is Mason hitting well, but the pitching staff as a whole averages an A-10 best 2.78 ERA.

Hampton comes into the games on an eight-game win streak after sweeping Coppin State last weekend. Margaret Wilkins leads the Pirates with a .397 batting average and 25 RBI on the season.  Danielle Budden is also a force on offense, boasting a .349 batting average and five home runs.  Meanwhile, Jailynn Jackson leads the Pirate pitching staff with a 2.67 ERA and 15 wins this season.  Jackson also has 115 strike outs in her 30 appearances for Hampton.
