FAIRFAX, Va. – After his five inning relief performance on Friday, freshman pitcher Tyler Zombro has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as announced on Monday.
Zombro entered the game in the top of the ninth inning in relief of starting pitcher Anthony Montefusco with the score tied 1-1. The Staunton, Va. native would go on to pitch the next five innings in the 13-inning ballgame, holding Saint Louis scoreless and allowing only four hits with one strikeout as he earned his fourth win of the season in the 2-1 extra-inning victory.
In addition to his four wins Zombro has also totaled three saves and holds an ERA of 2.50, third on the team among pitchers with more than three innings pitched. He has recorded 20 strikeouts in 36 innings of work has appeared in 13 ballgames, starting three.
Mason is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with Navy on Wednesday, April 30 in Annapolis, Md. before preparing to travel for a weekend conference series with UMass.
