Lucas, Stevens, and Popov Selected for EIVA Posteason Honors

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men’s Volleyball team receives more postseason EIVA awards.

Senior Dave Lucas and junior Hunter Stevens were named to the EIVA All-Academic team.  Recipients had to participate in at least 60 percent of their team’s sets, maintained a minimum GPA of 3.50, and must have been in at least their second year of athletic eligibility.

An Ellicott City, Maryland native, Lucas played in 25 sets for the Patriots this season.  Lucas led the team with 186 total digs and 316 reception attempts.  The libero was also recently named the George Mason Senior of the Year by the Alumni Association at George Mason. Dave will graduate with a degree in economics and a minor in finance.

Middle blocker Hunter Stevens played in all 27 sets for the Patriots this year and was a second team all-conference honoree.  Stevens led the team with 125 total blocks and ranked second with 181 kills.  Hailing from Newtown, Pennsylvania, the junior is working towards his degree in Psychology.

Meanwhile, Radoslav Popov was named to the EIVA Championship All-Tournament team for his efforts against Penn State in the semifinals.  The freshman led the team with 15 kills in the four-set match.  Popov, the Newcomer of the Year and a first team all-conference honoree, led the Patriots with 246 kills this season.

Mason finished the season with an overall record of 14-13, advancing to the semifinals of the EIVA Tournament where it fell to Penn State in four sets.
