A second-half surge was not enough for the Patriots Sunday afternoon as they fell 13-4 to La Salle at home on senior day.
Kirstin Russell put the Patriots on the board first with a goal three minutes into play. Five minutes later, the Explorers responded with a goal from Caitlyn Brostrand off a free position shot. From there, it was all La Salle in the first half. Mason would trail 9-1 going into the half, taking just eight shots over the first 30 minutes of play.
Mason looked to bounce back in the second half, managing to hold La Salle scoreless over the first 10 minutes of the half. However, the Explorers would net three goals over the next six minutes of play to take a 12-1 lead.
The Patriots were not going to go without a fight. Jacquelyn Spalding broke Mason’s scoring drought with a goal at the 11:57 mark and followed that up with a goal off a free position shot with just under 10 minutes to play. Shortly after play resumed, Russell scored her second goal of the day off an assist from Spalding.
That would be it offensively for the Patriots, despite outshooting the Explorers 12-10 in the second half.
