Swimming & Diving Completes Day One of First Home Meet

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Mason men’s and women’s swimming & diving team earned five first place finishes during their first day of competition with the College of Charleston, Northeastern and Towson University on Friday afternoon at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

The team claimed first in four swimming events and one diving event. Nick Guttendorf was able to top all competitors in the men’s one-meter dive with a total of 276.60 points, ahead of Towson’s Alex Cohen who finished with 257.48 points.

Senior Paige Impink was able to the lead the women to a first place finish in the women’s 200-yard Freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:36.10. Impink led off the relay and was followed by Kelsey Sorensen, Sydney Fisher and Jessica Stiles. Fisher also finished third in the women’s 50-yard Freestyle.

On the men’s side, William Clendenin was able to secure the top place in the men’s 200-yard IM in a time of 1:54.40 and freshman Zepher Begnell took first in the men’s 50-yard Freestyle, winning in a time of 21.30. The men’s 400-yard Medley relay was also won by the Patriots, comprised of Jesse Burnley, Fernando Rubio, Danny Comozzo and Colin Schwartz. Rubio also competed in the 1650-yard Freestyle, finishing second in a time of 16:08.84.

Mason resumes competition with all three teams on Saturday, November 2 starting at 10 a.m. in the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
