FARMVILLE, Va. - George Mason redshirt junior guard Sherrod Wright has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) University Division All-State Men's Basketball Second Team, as announced Monday.
Wright, who was a second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, led the Patriots and ranked seventh in the conference scoring 16.6 points per game. He also had 186 rebounds (4.9 rpg) and 56 assists along with 38 steals and 10 blocks. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native, who reached double-figure scoring 31 times this season including 17 games with 20 or more points, also ranked eighth in the conference in field goal shooting (46.5 percent) and 10th in free throw percentage (77.7 percent).
He set a school record by starting in all of the Patriots’ 38 games this year, and became the 32nd member of Mason’s 1,000 career point scoring club. His 632 points this year was seventh in single-season school history and moved him to 1,110 points in his career, ranking 24th among all-time Patriots.
Virginia Tech’s Erick Green earned Player of the Year honors, James Madison’s Matt Brady was named the top coach, while Longwood’s Michael Kessens was selected the Rookie of the Year in the annual voting conducted by the commonwealth’s sports information directors.
