The George Mason men’s basketball team continues play in the 2013 College Basketball Invitational presented by Buick, hosting the University of Houston on Monday night in the quarterfinal round. The Patriots and Cougars are meeting for the first time.
Houston comes to Fairfax with wins in five of its last six outings, including a 73-72 win at home over rival University of Texas last week in the CBI first round. With a 20-12 record, UH has earned their first 20-win season since the 2008-09 campaign, and features three double-digit scorers led by Joseph Young (17.9 ppg). TaShawn Thomas nearly averages a double-double of 16.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Conference USA Freshman of the Year Danuel House contributes 12.4 points per game including the game-winning basket against the Longhorns last Tuesday.
A win by the Patriots will earn them a spot in the CBI semifinals Wednesday night. The tournament will be reseeded following tonight’s action, with game location and time to be determined.
