The George Mason men’s basketball team closes out the home portion of its 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday night as it entertains Towson. Mason is looking to keep a winning streak alive over the resurgent Tigers, who have not defeated the Patriots in Colonial Athletic Association play since joining the league 12 seasons ago.
Towson sits tied for second in the CAA standings with an 11-5 mark, and has won two in a row including a 72-71 win at home over Drexel on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who will not participate in next week’s CAA Championship as a result of an NCAA post-season ban for academic issues, have a pair of double-figure scorers led by Jerrelle Benimon, who averages a double-double of 16.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game along with a team highs of 74 assists and 57 blocks.
A win Tuesday would mark the 700th victory in program history at George Mason, dating back to the program’s inception in 1966. Mason is 699-649 in its 46 seasons of play, a 51.9 percent winning percentage.
Tuesday is the final home game, and the Patriots' lone senior, Bryce Lewis, will be honored before tip-off.
