The George Mason men’s basketball team travels to Drexel on Valentine’s Day Thursday, looking to keep pace in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The Patriots fell to the Dragons two weeks ago in Fairfax, and this is the first home-and-home season against Drexel since 2008-09 - Mason has not been swept by the Dragons since the 2004-05 campaign.
Drexel sits at .500 in conference play, having dropped two of their last three since playing Mason while winning Sunday night at home over JMU, 60-48. Damion Lee paces the offense, scoring 16.8 points per game while Daryl McCoy leads the rebounding effort with 8.3 boards per contest. Drexel is the top scoring defense in the conference, allowing just 62.8 points per game.
The Patriots have been successful when playing on February 14, also known as St. Valentine’s Day. Mason is 10-6 on that day, including last season’s buzzer-beater victory at home over VCU. Mason has won its last three Valentine’s Day games, dating back to the 2005 loss at VCU. The Patriots faced Drexel on Valentine’s Day 2004, a 75-72 overtime Mason win in Fairfax.
Mason leads the all-time series against the Dragons, 12-8.
