Men's Tennis Drops Opening Match of Spring Season

Mason men's tennis opened up the 2013 spring season today against East Carolina at Monclair Country Club. The Pirates defeated the Patriots by a 6-1 margin, winning two of three doubles matches and five of six singles contests.

Mason's lone point came at #2 singles as Jordan Dyke defeated East Carolina's Nico Sariano in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. The Pirates won the doubles point after winning the top two matches,each by a score of 8-5. Mason's Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine won the #3 match 8-6.

East Carolina earned five points in the six singles matches. The Pirates defeated the Patriots by a 6-1, 6-2 margin in three matches. Jaran Vleigen defeated Mason's Jimmy Davis at the top singles positions, John Schmidt beat Tanner Baine at #3 singles Colin Roller bested Mason's Scott Keaton at #5 singles. At #6 singles, Mason's Aaron Capitel battled Pat Wolterbeek in a close contest, 2-6, 7-5(13-11).

The Patriots don't get back on the court until Saturday, February 9 against Morgan State at Monclair Country Club.
