RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Marko Gujanicic helped lead the George Mason men's
basketball team to a 2-0 record in conference play last week, and for his
efforts he was recognized as the Colonial Athletic Association's rookie of the
week on Monday. It is the first such honor for Gujanicic and the fourth weekly
honor this season for the Patriots.
Gujanicic posted the first double-double of his career with
10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in only 19 minutes off the bench to
help George Mason rally for a 68-57 victory over James Madison last Tuesday.
The forward also chipped in four points and five boards in 16 minutes
as the Patriots beat Hofstra 57-46 on Saturday. For the week, Gujanicic shot
50% from the floor.
The Cacak, Serbia native's double-double against the Dukes
was the first by a freshman since Ryan Pearson did so against Tulane in
December 2008. This season, Gujanicic ranks fourth on the team in scoring (5.2
ppg) and third in rebounding (4.2 rpg) while also recording 22 assists and 12
steals.
Gujanicic and the Patriots are back in action on Wednesday
night, traveling to Towson for a 7 p.m. tilt.
