The George Mason men’s basketball team opens Colonial Athletic Association play on Thursday evening hosting the Northeastern Huskies. Mason is opening conference play at home for just the second time in five years, and it is only the Patriots’ fifth home contest to date this season.
Northeastern comes to Fairfax with a 5-7 record, most recently dropping a 83-63 decision at UAB on Dec. 29. The Huskies have dropped six of their last seven after opening the season 4-1. Leading the way for head coach Bill Coen’s squad is Joel Smith, leading a quartet of double-digit scorers with 16.7 points per contest.
Mason holds a 10-9 lead in the all-time series, with NU taking a 85-82 win last season in overtime at Matthews Arena.
