The George Mason men’s basketball team plays back-to-back home games for the first time this season beginning Tuesday night when the Patriots host UMBC at 7 p.m. This will be the 20th meeting between the two teams, with Mason holding an 11-8 lead.
UMBC comes to Fairfax with a 2-5 record, including a 66-62 win over Colonial Athletic Association and crosstown rival Towson on Saturday night. The Retrievers, who are allowing 75 points per game on average and being outscored by more than seven points per game, sport a pair of double-digit scorers led by Ryan Cook. The senior guard has team highs of 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game on average.
The Patriots are 19-13 against the current membership of the America East conference, having faced all but two of the schools (Binghamton and Stony Brook). This is the second America East school that Mason will face this season, as the Patriots defeated Boston University, 48-45, on November 24 at the Patriot Center.
