The Patriots men's tennis team is participating in the ITA Regional Championships this weekend at the University of Virginia. Two Mason players advanced to the second round in singles action and the doubles team of Jimmy Davis and Scott Keaton won two matches to advance to the round of 16.
Mason's Tanner Baine defeated VCU's France Pare in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 before losing in the second round to Siim Tuus of Liberty, 6-1, 6-1. Jimmy Davis defeated Evan Zimmer from Bucknell in the first round, 7-6, 6-2. He lost in the second round to Ryan Pool of JMU, 6-4, 7-6. This is the first time in Mason history that the Patriots have advanced two singles players to the second round.
In doubles action, the team of Davis and Scott Keaton won two matches, a first round win against Morgan State's team of Park/Tash, 8-3. In the second round the Mason duo won close 9-8 (7-3) match against Young/Chen of Penn State. The Patriots team becomes the first doubles team to advance to the round of 16. They will play the No. 1 seed, the UVA team of Domijan/Richmond at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
