Take a look behind the scenes of Mason athletics, and you'll find a group of people integral to the success of Patriot student-athletes: Mason's sports medicine and strength and conditioning staffs. The center for sports performance, located in the Recreation Sports Complex (Field House), is equipped with the latest in medical supplies and technology.

    Athletic Training

    Please contact the athletic training staff at (703) 993-3279 if you need to make arrangements for events or practices.
    The following will be available to visiting teams when they arrive:
    • Water, cups, ice, ice bags, and emergency equipment
    • Access to the athletic training room before and after practices and competitions
    • Certified athletic trainer for all home contests and on-site for practices if a team travels without a certified athletic trainer
    • Staff assistance with emergency procedures and communication at practices and contests
    • Team physician available at all home soccer, basketball, and wrestling contests
    • Access to a physician and emergency facility within five minutes of campus
  • Please notify the athletic training staff as early as possible if your team is traveling without an athletic trainer. Our staff will be glad to assist any visiting team. We do request that the necessary supplies be provided for taping.
  • In order to use the electrotherapy and ultrasound units, athletes must be accompanied by a certified athletic trainer or provide a written prescription from a certified athletic trainer or team physician.

Sports Nutrition

At George Mason University, our sports dietitian supports athletes in reaching their full potential through individual assessment, counseling in proper fueling, and hydration for positive sports performance results. 

 For optimal athletic performance, know Your Fueling Game Plan.

  • Do you need assistance with reshaping your diet for optimal nutrition, hydration, performance or rehab?
  • Do you need assistance with weight management or body fat percentage for your sport?
  • Do you need medical nutrition therapy for medical maladies such as disordered eating, food allergies, elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, anemia, or other nutrition related maladies?
  • Do you need assistance evaluating dietary supplement safety

Know your sport, know your season, and schedule your fueling game plan in the off-season or preseason for optimal results.

Sports Nutrition Services for Varsity Student Athletes:

  • Individual Counseling: nutrition assessment, healthy meal and snack options for athlete’s sports specific needs, e.g. off-pre-in-season food options.
  • Small Group Presentation: (Examples) proper fueling and hydration strategies for pre-during-post exercise, etc.
  • Team Presentations: Eating on the road, anti-inflammatory foods, other sports specific topics.
