The George Mason men’s and women’s basketball teams will officially tip off their inaugural season in the Atlantic 10 Conference with the 17th annual Mason Madness celebration, taking place on Friday, October 18 at 8 p.m. The Patriot Center doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure the best seating in the Patriot Center.
Both third-year men’s head coach Paul Hewitt and first-season women’s head coach Nyla Milleson will address the crowd after their entrance into the Patriot Center. Both teams will take part in on-court activities throughout the evening, including the men’s team participating in the annual Green vs. Gold scrimmage.
Festivities will include performances by a number of entertainment groups including Doc Nix and the Green Machine, Urbanknowlogy, Masonettes and the Patriots cheerleading squad. Mason students will be selected to participate in games and contests on the floor for great Mason basketball prizes.
The George Mason athletics box office in the Patriot Center will be open during the event, allowing attendees an exclusive pre-sale opportunity to purchase individual-game tickets to the Patriots' historic 14-game Atlantic 10 home schedule in 2013-14, including the home opener against local rival American on Friday, November 8. The schedule features nine home contests against A-10 opponents, including the first A-10 contest in school history on Saturday, January 11 against Saint Joseph’s.
Prior to the doors opening, Pre Mason Madness, sponsored by the Office of Orientation, Family Programs and Services will begin at 7:15 p.m. outside the North Entrance of the Patriot Center. The event will feature several fan-friendly activities, including face painting, and spirit item giveaways. The Mason Bookstore will also be on hand with great deals on Mason gear!
