Mason concludes its 2013 season this weekend, hosting the University of Connecticut in non-conference action Thursday-Saturday.
Friday's game will mark the 14th meeting between the two squads, with the Huskies owning a slim 7-6 lead in the all-time series. Last facing each other in February 2009, UConn defeated Mason, 6-4, in the Kennel Club Classic Tournament hosted by the University of North Florida.
It will be a busy weekend for the Patriots, as they host senior day in addition to their Vs. Cancer Fundraiser on Saturday. Seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony, and at the conclusion of the game several players will shave their heads to get bald in solidarity with kids fighting cancer while also raising money and awareness for a good cause. The Patriots are 17-33 this season and will return to the diamond after a week off for final exams. They will look to finish the season strong, having won three of their last six games. Blaise Fernandez is the only Patriot to start all 50 games this season and continues to lead the team hitting .335 with 66 hits, 17 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 24 RBI's and 27 runs scored.
The Huskies are 28-25 this season, most recently dropping a 7-3 decision to Rhode Island on Tuesday to extend their losing streak to six games. UConn ended its conference season with five consecutive losses, including two at Rutgers before being swept by No. 10 Louisville last weekend, but still qualified for the upcoming Big East Tournament with a 9-15 conference mark. LJ Mazzilli paces the UConn offense, hitting .384 with 77 hits, 15 doubles, 41RBI's and 41 runs scored in addition to 25 stolen bases.
