FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason women's soccer head coach Diane Drake announced the hiring of Cory Hanks as an assistant coach. Hanks joins the Patriots from George Washington where he served as a volunteer assistant coach last season.

"Cory exudes an enthusiastic and contagious energy as a coach," commented Drake. "He is a great fit for the student-athletes we currently have and is very familiar with how our program operates which makes his entrance into the program as a full-time coach a seamless one."

A graduate of James Madison University, Hanks began his intercollegiate coaching career in women's soccer at George Washington. He began working with the Mason program at the Drake Summer Camps for the last few years as an age group coordinator and assistant director.

Since 2009, Hanks has been the head coach for two Southwestern Youth Association WAGS girl's soccer teams, as well as been the lead coach at Arlington Youth Soccer for ages 4-17.  Since moving back into the D.C. area, Hanks has also been the Director of Operations for the Upper 90 FC NOVA region, running clinics and coaching sessions for all ages and ability levels throughout the Northern Virginia, Maryland and D.C. areas.

Hanks was the women's varsity soccer coach at Flint Hill Upper School and also worked as a boys coach at James Madison High School.  Prior to his Flint Hill Upper School stint, he spent three seasons at St. Stephens and St. Agnes in Alexandria.

A native of Gaithersburg, Md., Hanks graduated from James Madison with a degree in Health Science in 2000. He is acquiring a USSF National Coaching “B” License this summer and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.
