George Mason women's soccer junior Tiana Kallenberger and senior
diver Derrick Butts have been recognized for their outstanding performances in
October as the Student-Athletes of the Month.
Kallenberger played an instrumental part in leading the
Mason women's soccer team to a 5-2-1 record during the month of October. The forward
led the Patriots with nine points, two goals and five assists, while scoring
the game-winner in the 1-0 shutout over Hofstra.
The Irvine, Calif., native had three assists in Mason's 2-0
win at UNCW and assisted on the game-winner against Towson that clinched a
berth into the CAA Championship. Against the Tigers, Kallenberger scored an
insurance goal for the Patriots to seal a 2-0 win. She also recorded assists
against Northeastern and Delaware.
Butts has won the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive in each of
his last three meets. In the second meet of the season, Butts placed
first in both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives in a meet against Loyola and Navy.
He set a new pool record at Loyola (Md.) with a score of 343.05 in the 1 meter
dive. Butts scored 346.70 in the 3 meter dive and helped George Mason to a
172-128 victory over Loyola (Md.).
The following week against Delaware, Butts set the Mason
school and pool record in the 1-meter dive with his score of
373.05. He then set another school record in the 3-meter dive with
his score of 395.17. In his most recent meet against University of Toronto,
Butts also came out victorious in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of
292.72 and 374.4.
Butts has been named CAA Male Diver of the Week three times thus far this
season, the most among any member of the swim and dive team.
Kallenberger and Butts are the second group of award winners
thus far this school year, as women's volleyball's Kelsey Bohman and men's
soccer's Taylor Morgan were named the September Student-Athletes of the Month.
